Mase Ramaru is a feminist organiser based in Cape Town, South Africa. A former junior research fellow at the African Gender Institute, she has also worked closely with the Young Women’s Leadership Project, a regional project on sexual and reproductive health rights that operates in six universities in southern Africa. Mase is also the co-founder and convenor of the Queer Feminist Film Festival (#QFFF), a film festival that celebrates and educates on grassroots queer feminist activism by folx in peri-urban and rural areas, whose transformative work is not always recognised. Through the use of film, the Festival engages communities on queer issues, promotes queer visibility and facilitates conversations around community-building. Having completed her honours degree in Gender and Transformation at the University of Cape Town in 2016, Mase is currently a master’s student in gender studies at UCT.
