Elsbeth Engelbrecht has been active in NGOs and gender justice movements in South Africa for more than 30 years. This includes 17 years in the land and agrarian-reform justice sector and, prior to that, with programmes promoting access to equal education and resources for resource-poor rural black youths. She joined Triangle Project in 2007 when they began working with rural lesbian and bisexual women in the Western Cape and later managed their Community Engagement and Empowerment Programme. She was Key Populations Programme Manager in the Free State and Northern Cape for the global public-health organisation ICAP (University of Columbia). She returned to Triangle Project in 2016 as Research and Advocacy Manager and currently serves as the organisation’s director.
