The Unexceptional Parent is a short film created by Carl Collison, a journalist, researcher and filmmaker, who covers LGBTIQ+ issues across Africa. Told from the perspective of parents of transgender and gender-diverse children, the film offers an honest and affirming look into the lived experiences of these parents and their children and aims to foster greater acceptance of transgender persons - as well as recognition of these parents who, despite often significant pushback from their communities, love and accept their children unconditionally.
