Reading time: 1 minute

On March 21 about 15,000 to 20,000 learners, parents, community members and activists marched to Parliament to remind Minister Angie Motshekga about her promise of adopting minimum norms and standards for school infrastructure by 01 April 2011.

The march was part of Equal Education's (EE) on-going campaign focused on upgrading key infrastructure and school libraries in the education system. Before the march, the group gathered at the Grand Parade in Adderley Street for a concert. After the concert, the crowd, led by EE marched to parliament to present a memorandum of demands to the Minister of Basic Education and President Jacob Zuma. Even though neither president Zuma nor the Minister of Basic Education was present to listen to EE’s demands, Chief of Staff for the Minister, accepted the memorandum on their behalf.
